ONGOING SUPPORT

Fractional governance support

A practical working rhythm for organisations that need governance support without launching a large programme. We maintain the backlog, facilitate decisions and help your internal owners keep the work current.

An engraved observatory and council of records; a metaphor for ownership and decision rights.
CONCEPTUAL ENGRAVING / DATAGOVERNANCE.CA

When this is the right conversation

Your initial programme is documented, but issues have stopped moving, owners have changed or the roadmap has no regular review.

What the work involves

  1. Agree a retained scope, time allocation, priority domain and internal decision authority.
  2. Facilitate stewardship reviews, maintain issue and decision registers and check selected evidence.
  3. Prepare concise sponsor updates showing progress, unresolved decisions and changes in scope.
  4. Coach internal owners and update operating materials so the capability remains with the organisation.

What we need from your team

A named sponsor and internal people authorised to implement changes and approve decisions. Out-of-scope work is agreed before it begins.

What useful completion looks like

The organisation has a visible cadence, maintained ownership and a current record of progress, exceptions and decisions.

Scope boundary
This is scoped advisory and delivery support, not a full-time executive appointment, emergency response service or transfer of statutory responsibility.

Before we begin

We agree the business objective, named delivery roles, access arrangements, fee, timetable and acceptance criteria in a written scope. Dependencies and out-of-scope work stay visible. We do not assume permission to change production systems or transfer sensitive information.

INSIDE THE ENGAGEMENT / WORKED EXAMPLE

Keep the decision loop alive after the first project.

A team has a register and a policy, but new issues still arrive without owners. A scoped operating cycle brings together open issues, decisions due, changes since the last review and evidence of corrective work. The useful output is not a longer status deck: it is a maintained set of decisions and responsibilities.

Illustrative scenario, not a client case study or a claim of past results.

The working evidence

  • Review agendaDecisions due, material changes, overdue actions and evidence gaps.
  • Maintained registersCurrent owners, definitions, exceptions and review dates.
  • Sponsor briefWhat changed, the business consequence and the decision required.
  • Handoff recordInternal capability, recurring responsibilities and an exit plan.

Who does what

The client retains decision authority and statutory responsibilities. Fractional support coordinates the agreed work; it is not an unlimited helpdesk, outsourced security operations centre or automatic appointment as a privacy officer.

THE HANDOFF TEST

An internal owner can run the next review from the working records, explain an outstanding exception and verify a completed corrective action without relying on the consultant’s memory.

Cadence, hours, response expectations, specialist involvement and exclusions are agreed in the statement of work. A monthly relationship does not imply continuous monitoring or guaranteed incident response.

DECISIONS BEFORE KICKOFF

Make the first workshop useful.

Bring roles, questions and approved examples—not an unrestricted data export.

  1. Which decisions, registers and review routines already exist?
  2. Which responsibilities remain with the internal sponsor and domain owners?
  3. What evidence will demonstrate a useful handoff after the initial period?
